February 22, 2010 …  The Southwick Rotary Club will sponsor two students from Southwick-Tolland Regional High School or a student who is a resident of Southwick and attends an accredited high school or technical school outside of the Southwick school district, to attend the annual RYLA seminar.  The seminar will be held at Springfield College on June 12th.  Expenses will be paid by Rotary.

The RYLA program seeks to provide high school sophomores with an opportunity to develop their skills and character while exposing them to Rotary’s values of service, high ethical standards, and peace.  The one-day program is an intensive training that brings together youth and young adults to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary.   The experience will build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.

To apply, the sophomore must complete an application in full.  Selection will be based on an essay (minimum 400 words) regarding the student’s interest in leadership and Rotary’s motto of “Service above Self.”

The application and background information for the seminar may be downloaded from www.southwickrotary.org.

Please mail the completed application with all of the necessary signatures and essay to Ellen Miles, Southwick Rotary Club, Box 701, Southwick, MA   01077.  Deadline for the application is May 1st
